You might be wondering why this bottle of lotion says You Are Beautiful on the front, instead of say, Olivine Lotion. Last year I bought an empty glass bottle and I wrote the same phrase on the bottle with magic marker (I'm not very crafty!) so I could remember to say this to myself every time I put my lotion on. You know what? It worked! Just doing this every day has totally upped my game in the Sparkly Self Love department and I want the same for you. And the wooden tag? I LOVE THE TAG!!! Slip this off the bottle and put it anywhere you might need a little pick me up throughout the day.
The lotion is crafted from 72% organic ingredients and comes in all 6 of the yummy Olivine scents. It is in an 8 oz glass bottle with a locking black pump. It will look gorgeous on your bathroom vanity!
Super cute pencils!!! Because you can use a little dose of Sparkly Self Love while you are balancing your checkbook or making to do lists. $10 for a set of 5 pencils. These will make perfect stocking stuffers and little gifts for everyone you know. I would stash a few in my gift closet if I had a gift closet...
There is no question that whenever I am having a crappy day, the best way to pull myself out of it is to be generous to someone else. I mentioned this to a friend of mine, and her response was, "Well that's great if you actually have money to give, but the truth is that I just don't." Well I'm here to tell you that we ALL have something to give, even if you think you have absolutely NOTHING to give. And here are my top 5 tips...
Do an anonymous act of kindness. This is one of my favorites, and I have been practicing this a lot with my son. Our favorite thing to do is to pick a flower and leave it on a stranger's car, either the door handle or the windshield. Who wouldn't be happy to come out and find a flower on their car? When I was a kid I remember my Dad paying the toll sometimes for the person behind us in line at the toll booth, I always thought that was so much fun and I'll never forget it.
Go through your closet and fill a bag with clothes and shoes that you don't wear anymore. Do a Google search for a women's shelter and drop them off. This is a win/win for someone else that needs clothing to wear, and odds are you have too many clothes to begin with!
Send a friend an actual card, just to tell her she's awesome. This one is sure to delight pretty much anyone, and the few times that it has happened to me it has made me shriek with delight. If you need help finding out the perfect thing to say then you might want to take a looksie through the new book by Miss Alexandra Franzen, 50 Ways To Say You're Awesome.
Volunteer. I'll admit, I've had a hard time with this one, and I've tried multiple times to volunteer my time to places and no one ever calls me back. Perhaps it is a sign that I am no good at volunteering? My friend Emily is an awesome volunteer, she walks dogs at the animal shelter, fosters cats & dogs at her home and has acted as a mentor to young girls. I admire her so much for the time she gives, and it only enriches her life on a daily basis.
Donate. Ok, this one does cost some money, but doesn't have to cost very much! My very favorite organization to donate to is Project Night Night, they are a beautiful company that gives gift bags to kids in homeless shelters filled with toys, blankets, stuffed animals and books. You can donate just $20 and they will give a child a gift bag. This is my favorite way to get a quick hit of generosity because I know exactly what my $20 is going to do, it is going to make a child in a homeless shelter extremely happy. I can envision that child receiving the bag, and take my mind off my problems which are usually so insignificant.

I received an email last week from a customer, and she was head over heels in love with the gold glitter dipped feathers that are enclosed in the Olivine perfume boxes. First she wanted to know if she could get 20 more of the feathers, second she wanted to know WHY there was a feather in the box. Surely there must be a special meaning for me? So I'm going to answer this question in 3 parts!
Here would be the #1 reason why feathers are magical to me...
When my son Johnny was about a year old we started going on nature walks. I noticed that we started seeing beautiful feathers everywhere we went. Like most kids, Johnny loved birds (and still does!) and we spent a lot of time just watching them fly through the sky.
One day we found a beautiful white feather that was on the grass down the street, and it was surrounded by pink rose petals, it was truly amazing. I picked up the feather and read the special message that the bird had left for Johnny on the feather, it went something like this:
I wish you could have seen the smile on his face when I read that to him. And so began the tradition. Every time we see a feather on our walks I read the special message that the bird has left for him, and it is a truly special ritual that we share.
There is no question, Gardenias are my very favorite flower. This may be the reason that many of my perfumes have Gardenia in them. This may also be the reason that I had a Gardenia bouquet for my wedding, and they were floating in vases at every table. And quite possibly the reason that I want to spend every free moment in Hawaii. Gardenias are ADDICTIVE to me. So I did some research and I found out some very cool tidbits about this beautiful flower that I wanted to share with you...
- The Gardenia represents grace and secret love.
- In aromatherapy it is used to treat depression and anxiety, but most excitingly it is used to treat loss of libido in both men and women.
- In England during the 19th century it was considered good luck to give the blossom to a man.
- Billie Holiday considered them to be her signature flower and wore them any time she performed.
- Gardenias were Sigmund Freud's favorite flower.
Brigitte Bardot, the ultimate French girl!
I've been reading a delightful book called Ooh La La!:: French Women's Secrets to Feeling Beautiful Every Day. In it there is an awesome chapter about how French women choose their perfumes, and I just loved this, so I thought I would share it with you!
"French women are taught to first find out who they are in this world. Yes, there are many, many fragrances to choose from, but a French girl is taught to decide first her essential self - and then she proceeds to find a perfume that matches her own unique personality, and style and intellect. As she matures and becomes a little more worldly, she might change her fragrance to something that is more complex and that can signify her experience, her travels and her accomplishments. The French woman is in charge of the fragrance and not the other way around, and you can be too, by simply making a choice."
I spent a week holding my breath last month as I was waiting to hear back from Every Mother Counts to see if they would partner with me on my new perfume line. A whole week.
Some of you may have heard of Christy Turlington, and if you haven't then I am a little worried about you! She is the supermodel that everyone loves to love. Two years ago a mutual friend of ours turned me on to the movie No Woman No Cry , that Christy Turlington directed. My son was a little over a year old at the time, and I spent much of the movie in tears. In the movie I learned that every 2 minutes a woman dies due to complications from pregnancy or childbirth, and that almost all of those deaths are preventable. Being a Mom, that was completely unacceptable to me, and I wanted to find a way to help.
Every Mother Counts is a campaign to end preventable deaths caused by pregnancy and childbirth all over the world. Their goal is to raise awareness and resources for effective maternal health programs.
And the good news? Every Mother Counts said YES to partnering with me!! That means that 5% of every sale from Olivine Atelier will go to Every Mother Counts, and I couldn't be more delighted about that.
I really encourage you to check out the Every Mother Counts web site and read as much as you can. The statistics will astound you, but the hope will encourage you.
